The Show director goes over scripts with Col. John Gorman and Show regular, Kathryn Minner – “the little old lady from Pasadena” - - “put a Dodge in your garage, honey!”

MAKING IT HAPPEN - PRODUCTION

A Director doesn’t exist without a Show’s star and cast of other stars and performers . . . AND, the Show wouldn’t have existed for seven years without a Production Staff. Although I functioned in name as Co-producer of the Show, it was basically because I was in the right place at the right time and the idea of the Show was created . . . which, in turn, birthed into reality through the invitation of Colonel John Gorman to bring some Shows to Camp Pendleton.

The putting together a cast of twenty-five to sixty performers month after month could not have been possible without a small but dedicated, passionate group of folks called a ‘production staff’. For me, it also would have been truly impossible had not that krazy old Keystone Kop, Mike Lansing, just happen to come along. He was a performer in his own right and knew so many people in Show business. He was also a veteran and knew from experience the importance of entertainment for those serving in the Military. His passion to locate monthly talent was tireless. His adoration and love for Jean with her passion to bring a few hours of fantasy and fun for the Marines made Mike a dream of dedication.

My ‘right hand’ in production came to us about a year into the Shows, when Bob Jamieson, an old College buddy and a then present L.A. County Sheriff, pitched in to cover the areas of production I’d spill over into his capable mind and hands.

The production staff was complimented with the talent of photographer, Joyce Widoff, and Production Assistant, Ray Engel. The Base supplied us with Sgt. Don Gorby as our Stage Manager and Dick Yancy, Rick West and Dale Roberts assisted me for some of our larger-cast Show productions.

It would be wonderful for me if I could share with you all now just exactly how important it was to have Bob Jamieson become the co-producer on the Show. However, we have been buddies since College days and saying too many nice things about Jamie would be a big mistake - - - we are still close friends even after fifty years and I do have to live with what he might think I think about him . . . if you know what I mean. He’d never let me live it down!

Therefore I have decided to allow Lt. Colonel Leonard Wood tell you what he wrote to Jamie following the end of the Shows. CLICK TO LETTER I stole a copy of it for my scrapbook file.
